We help lost and unwanted dogs throughout Tasmania

Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania has been here for dogs for more than 70 years. We re-unite lost dogs with their families and find new homes for unwanted dogs. We are committed to zero euthanasia of healthy, temperamentally sound dogs.

Angus must have had some beef with our photographer during his photoshoot – boyfriend has rudely poked out his tongue for all to see.

Jokes aside, we are told Angus is “a friendly, affectionate boy who absolutely adores human affection”. Affection both ways sounds promising! He came to us as a stray and we believe he’s a Bull Mastiff about five and a half years old. He weighs a bit more than 36kg.

Angus knows sit and is generally very well mannered, although he is strong on a lead. An obedience training refresher that includes treats when he does walk well could provide all the motivation he needs to rein things in.

He’s not suited to a home with cats, but we understand Angus is good with other dogs.

🐾 Pure Angus beef
🐾 Friendly fellow
🐾 Affectionate nature
🐾 Adores people

Every dog is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms, and has had a standard health check. Each dog has also been behaviourally assessed.

If you are interested in meeting Angus, please use the link below to submit an expression of interest. Please include as much detail as you can about the life you could provide for a new dog. Staff from our Devonport Home will contact those suitable to chat and arrange an appointment.

JD could stand for pretty much anything but in this girl’s case we’ve settled on Just Divine! Although Just Darn Goofy looks like it would also suit.

JD is a Kelpie x who weighs a smidge under 29kg and is three years old. We are told she knows sit, stay, comes when called, and is toilet trained.

A very affectionate girl, JD is under the impression she is a lap dog, which means hilarity is almost guaranteed with this one. She loves to play, and her favourite game is chasings, which means exercise is also guaranteed. She also likes splashing around in water – up to her chest, anyway.

We don’t know if JD has lived with other pets in the past. She plays very nicely with her doggie friends at our Launceston Home.

🐾 Looks a lil goofy
🐾 Affectionate girl
🐾 Has some training
🐾 Playful nature
🐾 Large lap dog

Every dog is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms and has had a standard health check. Each dog has also been behaviourally assessed.

Do you enjoy a good conversation over a meal? Then Tamika here would make the ultimate dinner guest.

She’s a Greyhound who will be three years old in June and weighs 39kg, which is pretty sizeable for a female of her breed. We’re told she comes when called and is toilet trained. Staff at our Burnie Home told us she’s an easy-going girl who walks nicely on a lead.

Tamika is a water baby who loves going for a play at the beach, river or dam and travels well in a car or dog trailer. We’re told she can be vocal at dinner time, which is kind of adorable: “Can’t you see I’m starving here?”

She is playful with other dogs and lived with another in the past. She also lived with chickens that she was kept very well away from at all times. We can’t say how she’d go with any free-ranging small animals.

Tamika will need some humans who have the time and patience to help ease her into her new home and give her some gentle guidance to aid her in settling into her new family life.

🐾 Easy-going girl
🐾 Loves water
🐾 Likes other dogs
🐾 Some training

Fancy your own Tiny Tank? Look no further. This guy’s so little and cute we think he should be nicknamed “the Tankini”.

Tank is a Jack Russell Terrier x who is six years old and weighs about 8kg. We are told he knows sit, down, wait, comes when called, and is toilet trained.

He’s an energetic little fellow – staff at our Burnie Home called him a “pocket rocket”. He also adores the company of humans. “He loves to claim your knee and snuggle,” they said.

“Tank is such a dear little dog,” his information states. He used to go to a previous owner’s workplace with them and was apparently enormously popular with staff, who tucked treats away in their drawers for him!

Tank hasn’t lived with any children before but we’re told he enjoys their company. Tank will do best as the single dog in the home and is not suitable for a place with small pets such as cats, chickens or rabbits. He’d prefer a family where someone is home more often than not.

🐾 Snuggle monster
🐾 Pocket rocket
🐾 Some training
🐾 Craves company

Every dog is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms, and has had a standard health check. Each dog has also been behaviourally assessed.

Sheena literally shines in the sunlight like the star she is, although we cannot say if she’s had a successful pop career back in the ’80s.

She’s a Belgian Shepherd x who weighs about 29kg and will be six years old in November. We are told she knows sit, stay, wait (for food), comes when called, and is toilet trained. Staff at our Burnie Home tell us she walks well on a lead and is “very responsive” to commands.

Sheena is energetic and loves a good run. She likes playing at the beach or dam, but will only get her tootsies wet, bless her. She also enjoys playing the ever-popular game of “bite the water from the garden hose”.

She has a calm nature but is still playful. Sheena is not suited to a home with cats, chooks or small livestock. We think she would also do best in a single-dog family. She can be slightly full-on in showing her affection to children so needs to go to a home with kids more than 12 years of age.

🐾 Not a famous singer
🐾 But a shining star
🐾 Good training
🐾 Loves a good run
🐾 Calm but playful

Every dog is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms, and has had a standard health check. Each dog has also been behaviourally assessed.

If you are interested in meeting Sheena, please use the link below to submit an expression of interest. Please include as much detail as you can about the life you could provide for a new dog. Staff from our Burnie Home will contact those suitable to chat and arrange an appointment.

Handsome Alfie looks to be almost bursting with enthusiasm for life, with his bright eyes and frankly over-the-top ears.

Alfie is a Border Collie-Smithfield x who weighs 20kg and will be a year old in May. We’re told he knows sit, heel and walk, and is toilet trained.

Staff at our Hobart Home confirmed this, saying he is a “young, playful, happy boy” who will sit for treats. Ongoing training will be important at his age.

He hasn’t lived with children but has lived with other dogs, although he tends to want all the attention to himself so may do best as the sole dog in his new home. He hasn’t lived with any other pets. He will need ongoing socialisation with other dogs, and people too.

Alfie enjoys going for car rides and likes a splash under the garden sprinkler.
We’re told he loves to sleep near his humans at night. Aww, Alfie! As a mix of two brainy, working dog breeds, Alfie will need plenty of mental stimulation and exercise.

🐾 Needs training
🐾 … and socialisation

“Et tu, Brute?” says Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar when he discovers the murderous treachery of his friend. “You too, Brutus?”

Our Brutus would like someone to visit him at our Hobart Home and say: “Let’s go home, everyone. You too, Brutus!”

We have very little information on Brutus. He’s some kind of Hound who is now five months old and weighed 12kg at his four-month weigh-in in February, so he has plenty of growing still to do. He hasn’t had much in the way of obedience work, but he's been spending some time in foster care and getting his toilet training "on point".

"Brutus is such a joy to have around," his foster carer said. "He is super affectionate, gentle and calm." He also got on great with their two dogs! Ongoing obedience training and continuing socialisation with people and other dogs will be important.

We’re told he likes kids but is still at the “mouthy” puppy stage. Again, ongoing obedience work and socialisation will help him get these silly urges under control.

🐾 Likes other dogs

Bobo back with his mum and breeder, Amy

Bobo finds his fairytale ending

Senior dog Bobo went from Slumdog to Millionaire in the love stakes when a very special person from his past discovered he was at our Hobart Home. An eight-year-old Great Dane-Mastiff x, Bobo spent four months with us, dividing his time between our Hobart Home and foster care before being adopted in mid-February.
Bobo’s foster carer gave Hobart big boy Bobo a glowing report. “He is just the gentlest giant around the house. I call him Bobo the Clown … because he is!”
